September 20, 1954: FORTRAN Programming Code Run for First Time

Fortran is a blend from the IBM Mathematical Formula Translating System that started as the assembly language for the IBM 704. A general purpose, procedural programming language that is suited to numeric computation and scientific computing. It was widely used in an assortment of scientific and engineering situations, and was even used to design projects such as bridges and aeroplanes, even used for storm drain design!
